Education

During the first year of the undergraduate program, students can learn liberal arts and basic subjects such as mathematics and physics. They include common subjects related to the division of global architecture such as “Introduction to Global Architecture”.

The more targeted subjects for the naval architecture and ocean engineering begin in the second year. Subjects such as applied mathematics and physics, fluid mechanics, structural mechanics, control mechanics are given during the third year of undergraduate study. A notable mention goes for a subject called “Ships and Offshore Structures Design and Exercise” in the autumn-winter semester of the third year.

In this class, students are assigned to design a floating structure to launch a rocket. Not only to conceptualize, they also need to fabricate a scaled model and conduct a tank test to prove the design feasibility. Subjects such as “Marine Policies” may be studied, too.

In our department, it is mandatory for students to pick a subarea for the purpose of their final project completion and thesis writing. This is manifested further by joining a laboratory that align with their chosen topic. This is done during the fourth year of the undergraduate study. All students will carry out a final project with supervision from the professors of the same laboratory.

In the postgraduate study, the more specialized lectures are given. All lectures are taught in English under collaboration with the International Maritime and Urban Engineering Program. The students will have the opportunities to do research presentations in the meetings outside university, such as in the society meeting, international conference, and so on. Exchange programs with foreign universities are available, too.
