To International Students

Our laboratory welcomes international students. Knowledge related to naval architecture and ocean engineering is necessary for research, but basic academic abilities such as mathematics, mechanics, and fluid mechanics are more important. We hope that you will come with this knowledge firmly.

We recommend you study and research at our laboratory for a total of 5 years, including the master cause (2 years) and the doctoral course (3 years). In the master course, you can attend high-level lectures on naval architecture and ocean engineering and you can acquire a wide range of knowledge in this field. All lectures are given in English, and you will take the same lectures as all Japanese students and international students. This knowledge and experience will be the base of your research in the doctoral course. To obtain a doctoral degree, you must publish academic journals. 3 years of the doctoral course are sometimes not sufficient for students who join us from the doctoral course to win the Ph.D. defense. Therefore, we hope you will join us for the master course.

You need to apply to the International Program of Maritime & Urban Engineering to join our department and laboratory. In this program, you can apply for a scholarship provided by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). Many international students obtained this scholarship. This is also explained here.

Recently, students from the following countries have enrolled in our laboratory. Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, South Korea
