Life in laboratory

Example of how students spend his/her day

Our laboratory encourages students to freely pursue their academic studies and to grow through them. For this reason, we expect students to engage in independent research activities. Although we hold regular meetings with the supervisor and the laboratory members, we leave it up to the students to decide when and how they will conduct their research activities.

This is an example of how one student spends a day. While balancing her part-time job and club activities, she conducts she research in a style that suits her.

学生の1日の過ごし方例

There are no core hours, so everyone comes to the lab on their favorite days and times.

In addition, our laboratory does not only conduct research, but also values the interaction among the members in the laboratory. We have various events such as sports (soccer, snowboarding, etc.), outdoor activities (fishing, camping, etc.), Japanese traditional activities (such as Nagashi Somen), drinking parties, etc. What we do depends on the members each year. Of course, it is not mandatory, so we hope that you will participate only in what you want to do.

Although we expect independent research from our students, we do not leave them alone and unattended. We respect students' opinions and carefully support them through discussions on how to achieve their goals. In addition, since it is actually very difficult for students to suddenly conduct research freely, we sometimes suggest specific ideas according to the level of the students. Through repetition of such discussions and meetings, students gradually develop the ability to think for themselves and carry out their own research.

Various opportunities are offered to students who work hard. Students present their research at academic conferences at the Japan Society of Naval Architects and Ocean Engineers and at international conferences around the world, and some students study abroad at universities in Japan and abroad. Through their research life in our laboratory, students can acquire not only deep expertise in naval architecture and ocean engineering, programming skills, and experimental skills, but also logical thinking skills, presentation skills, and communication skills. We will fully support students who have a desire to improve their skills.
