Background & Issues

Today, the world is facing unprecedented changes and responses, including heightened awareness of economic security due to overlapping geopolitical risks, response to global warming, major socioeconomic transformation due to the development of new technologies represented by AI, and labor shortage issues due to declining birthrates and increasing aging populations in developed countries. Japan's maritime industry must undergo a “Major Manufacturing Revolution” to rapidly supply the market with high-performance next-generation ships that feature innovative functions, excellent environmental performance, and safety, thereby addressing international issues and achieving high life cycle value.

Project Purpose

Based on the" Industry on Campus program" project promoted by the University of Osaka, the Japanese maritime industry and our Graduate School of Engineering are cooperating to develop innovative systems that integrate a wide range of fields such as engines, electrical and control systems, The project will also serve as a center for the development of the next generation of human resources, contributing to the International Maritime (IMO) goal of achieving net-zero Greenhouse Gas(GHG) emissions in international shipping by 2050.
