Workshop Lecture by Mr. Yasuo Tanaka
On February 20, 2026 (Friday), we invited Mr. Yasuo Tanaka, former President of MTI Co., Ltd., to deliver a workshop lecture. He explained the history and direction of technology development at NYK and MTI, the background and expectations behind the establishment of OCEANS at The University of Osaka, and provided an insider's look at how ship design decisions are made from a shipping company's perspective.
Using general arrangement (GA) drawings of container ships and PCCs, Mr. Tanaka explained ship design from a shipping company's viewpoint and highlighted the appeal of engineering management work. Many students commented that the practice-oriented content was highly insightful.
