Q1: Please tell us about your current research.
Ship structures like tankers, and massive floating structures akin to giant buildings, are assembled from many thin steel plates. In recent years, for mostly economic reasons, there has been a trend to make these steel plates as thin as possible, demanding higher design technology. We have to accurately predict how these plates will hold up under complex loads. Especially when the plate has a curvature, termed as curved plates, there have been few researches on the behaviour of such curved plates. The themes of my research have been, 1,a comparison of curved plate with cylindrical shells in their behaviour, 2, a derivation of analytical prediction methods, and 3, the impact of various parameters on its behaviour.
Q2: Please tell us why you chose
       Osaka University
       and about your plans after graduation.
The University of Osaka has a research system that stands out globally in the field of ship and marine engineering. I also knew of the presence pf Professor Yao, renowned in the field of buckling and collapse behavious ofplate structures, which furthered my desire to study with this research group. In future, I'd like to take advantage of the work and experience gained here to be involved in design or research for high-speed boats at a research center in Europe. I'd also like to be involved in research into structural strength of ocean-going vessels under complex wave loads.
